JPEmbedded’s IEC 61850 stack certified!

Our IEC 61850 protocol stack has been successfully certified by the Institute of Power Engineering, Research Institute in Gdansk, Poland. The Conformance Certificate no. 2017/01 proves that JPEmbedded’s IEC 61850 Stack fulfills the requirements of the standard.

 

The conformance tests have been conducted according to 10th part of the standard (IEC 61850-10 Ed.2). The following PN-EN 61850 implementation elements have been tested with a positive result:

  • configuration file,

  • application association,

  • server, logical device, logical node and data,

  • data set,

  • substitution,

  • unbuffered and buffered reporting,

  • goose,

  • time synchronization.

 

The tests have been carried out on demo ProtectSi device (RaspberryPi with Linux OS) running sample application with JPEmbedded’s IEC 61850 implementation.

 

About JPEmbedded’s IEC 61850 solution.

IEC 61850 Stack by JPEmebdded is implemented in ANSI/ISO C ++ and is designed for embedded devices. Stack supports 2nd edition of the standard, it features platform independent architecture (can be used with or without operating system) which fosters porting and decreases time to market. Stack is delivered as a source code.

 

JPEmbedded's IEC 61850 Stack, probably has a smallest memory footprint on the market, which makes it suitable for wide range of embedded devices.

JPEmbedded’s IEC 61850 stack used in Swedish R&D project

“Open execution platform with centralized management of protection and control
functions” R&D project is currently running at Luleå University, Sweden. The 
project aims to demonstrate the feasibility of a platform for execution with 
the ability to perform protection and control functions from different vendors 
in a controlled manner.

This will facilitate vendor-neutral requirements and design of the automation
of substations, so that utility companies can implement complex protection
system at a reduced cost.

The project is collaboration between device vendors, universities and utility 
companies and combines the results of the latest developments in communication 
(IEC 61850) and industrial data (IEC 61499). 

An ARM board with implemented JPEmbedded’s IEC 61850 Stack is used in 
laboratory installation to forward data from Beckhoff PLC to OpalRT 
substation model.

The main applicant of the project is Prof. Valeriy Vyatkin and project partner 
is the drive supplier IETV AB. The reference group includes representatives 
from the Vattenfall AB, Umeå Energy, Svensk Energy, Ellevio and ABB.

In November 2015 JPEmbedded had participated in one of the calls for innovative projects and in January 2016 was selected to implement and co-financed by EU grant. Grant will support professional conformance testing of sample application using our IEC 61850 stack. The IED with Linux OS, running IEC 61850 stack offered by JPEmbedded will be verified by the external body experienced in verification of IEC 61850 devices.
